Flowery Phrases for Florist Shops
If you’re like me, you’ll spend more time at the florist trying to find something to write on the stupid card than you will picking out the flowers. And all the while, the florist is standing there, staring at you. Well, here are a few pointers.
Sometimes humor works in flower delivery. But what you’re spending on flowers is certainly no joke. If you don’t know the person well, keep it clean and non- judgemental. The florist will have some ideas, but try to be personal.
If you happen to see a joke online that really tickles your funny bone, imagine the person receiving the card reading it. How do they react? Even a gentle “over the hill” birthday message with the florist’s delivery can sting. Leave the aging jokes to those with no imagination.
The hardest messages to write on the florist card is one going with the flowers to a funeral. The funeral home collects those cards and puts them into a book for the family. So, make sure you would be proud to see that card in five years. And don’t be afraid to mention the deceased in your message. The family wants to know you actually remember his or her name. Mention a kindness shown, or even a simple “I feel the loss, too.”
On a florist card, notes of encouragement need to be absolutely positive. A backhanded compliment is as good as a stab in the back. If you’re congratulating them, allow them to feel it! For instance: “Tomorrow is likely to be a brighter day for you! Keep the faith!” is a positive sentiment to write on the florist card that accompanies that flower delivery. Be careful that the aroma of the bouquet is not masked by the odor of the note!
Sending a simple bud vase to school is a great way to thank a teacher. When the florist’s truck pulls up, half the school looks out the window. One teacher receiving flowers lights up the whole school. It will be talked about from one end of the hall to the other! In this case, be sure the card says something nice, but neutral. “Thanks for helping my son with his homework last night.” Sends a very different message from “Thanks for last night!” Believe me, sealed or not, that card will be read by the whole staff!
Do you need a few examples? Try these:
“These flowers will never live up to your beauty.”
“I really admire the way you contribute to our community.”
“Mr. _______ will always be a part of my life. I’ll honor his memory forever.”
“These flowers will wilt, but our love will continue to bloom forever!”
“If forever begins tomorrow, I still have had more than my share of love for and from you!”
The more of yourself you put into the message, the more the florist’s arrangement will mean. Try writing the message first, then pick the flowers to go with it.
