Akin to what Douglas McArthur uttered when he stepped into the shores of Leyte in the Philippines, edible flowers are back in vogue after years of being away in the scene of culinary arts. History would trace it back from the Roman period to the Chinese spreading to the Middle Eastern and down to the cultures of India. It was especially famous in the Victorian era. Presently, there is a lot of chefs that have put novelty in their cooking styles. You can hear their finished products holler that “if technology knows all too well about innovation, then we are not far from the line.†There are plenty that garnish their entrees with plant blossoms to give that touch of elegance. Have you seen dried flowers before? Not the kind that dry naturally on the plant. The people who are so fond of preserving flowers are mostly women and artists. Women, most particularly young ones, are those who take some of the flowers they received from someone special and let the flowers dry by inserting them in their books, notebook, or diaries. It may sound corny to you, but it does happen. Another way to preserve your favorite fresh flowers is to air-dry them by hanging them upside down or freeze-dry them.
The reason why certain people like to keep dried flowers is mostly to preserve the memories of a special occasion or someone. Even if carefully dried, flowers are not everlasting. Bird of Paradise flowers are spectacular blossoms. There’s no stopping you from admiring such beautiful creations on this planet. Although most flowers are fantastic, but you just can’t deny the unique beauty of Bird of Paradise flowers.
The Bird of Paradise, native to South Africa, is a large tropical herb that was classified as a member of the banana family - or Musaceae, probably because of the shape of its leaves, which resembles that of banana leaves. At present, its scientific name is Strelitzia reginae. It is also ranked in the division of Magnoliophyta, class Liliopsida, and order Zingeberales.
