Silk or real; what’s a bride to do? For many brides, the question is really perplexing — especially for those who want to mix a dash of “Do-It-Yourself” into their wedding flower preparations.

Obviously, silk comes with some advantages — it’s tough and shelf stable, and the petals won’t come off at the worst possible moment. On the other hand, silk flowers don’t always look real, and they aren’t always a bargain, either.

The fact is, the silk versus real dilemma is more confusing than ever, thanks in part due to the increasing sophistication — and accompanying cost — of silk and latex flowers. Flower Bouquets: Make Them Last Forever

Flower bouquets are of various shapes and styles and vary in sizes from small to large. A round bouquet is simple and elegant. It is a traditional style that is suitable for both formal and an informal wedding. The flowers can be tied in a cluster or loosely arranged. However, the flowers chosen for the bouquet can influence the formality of the bouquet. For a more formal look, roses would fit the bill while daises project a casual and informal look. A cascading style bouquet can be designed very dense with flowers and foliage or arranged more loosely for an airy look. This type of elongated bouquet implies sophistication and features fullness and an abundance of blossoms at the top tapering down with flowing floral streamers, foliage and ribbons. The basket bouquet has flowers arranged in a smaller basket. These are often used in garden-like settings – carried mostly by flower girls and junior bridesmaids.

A Real Local Florist

In your search for a real local florist, the Internet is a great first port of call.  But there are also other resources. Try your local phone directory or a guide to your local town (look in your town’s tourist information bureau). Both should give you a list of florists in your area and tell you something about them too.
 
Then, of course, there are recommendations from friends and other people you know. Often word of mouth is the best form of advertising and the best referral. A florist with a good reputation stands out.
 
However, when you want to send flowers, your highest priority is usually the quality, the price and the delivery time. Once you’ve researched local florists, it always pays to visit. Depending on where you live, you may have many to choose from. Here’s where recommendations are good, because if you know anyone who sends flowers on a regular basis, they’ll often be able to give good recommendations.
 
A gift of flowers comes straight from the heart, which is why you want to be assured that the florist who sends flowers for you is providing the highest quality service. Even if their premises look good, and they seem to know what they are doing, how can you know that the flowers you send will remain fresh for the longest time and arrive at their destination with that freshly-picked look?
 
How do you know the florist will give you the personal attention and advice you need? As a guide, consider the following points you when choosing a florist: First, they should provide the service, the design style and the products that you like. Then, they should offer you personal attention like keeping track of your preferences.
 
The florist should offer helpful suggestions about the flowers you send. And they should also provide a guarantee if you are not happy with the service or product for whatever reason. They should preferably offer a wide variety of flowers and floral styles and demonstrate creativity. After all, you do want a beautiful arrangement.
 
Finally, consider a florist who has some form of professional affiliation. One who does will often have a professional standard they must meet and will be professionally trained. A well-established florist who’s been in the business in one location for a number of years would be a good choice.
 
Keep these points in mind when you visit or phone. Note which are most important to you and focus on these.
 
No matter what you’ve been told or what you’ve read, if you don’t feel comfortable with a particular florist, or don’t like their designs, keep looking. You want a florist who will make the flower arrangements you like. You need someone who will work to your specifications rather than dismissing you as someone who knows nothing and doing what they like. Your florist should be able to give you helpful suggestions, but ultimately should agree to your wishes if they want your business.

Orchids

There is a general misunderstanding about orchids that they grow with much difficulty. Some even hold that they bloom o­nly in near greenhouse conditions. But this is not a fact as many types of orchids can flourish even in an ordinary environment, provided the essentials are religiously followed.

So it is not condition that is crucial but the extent of care that needs to be higher. With suitable standards of care orchids may grow as indoor window plants.

The Orchidaceae family is a large family that has nearly 750 genera, about 2000 species. More over there are some thousand species that are artificially made hybrids. These are divided in two types, terrestrial and epiphytic, the former grow o­n the ground while the later cling to rocks, trees or shrubs. Most of them are terrestrial.

Like most terrestrial plants the terrestrial orchids also have thick and fleshy roots with fine fibrous roots connected to them. They provide nutrient food to the plant. As against this epiphytic orchids also have aerial roots along with the base root. These aerial roots help them climb and creep along a reasonably damp surface. These roots are cylindrical and thick.
