Caring for Roses
Roses the most delicate and tender plant, that gives soothing fragrance and holds beautiful look, needs a bit of extra care to charm for a longer span of life. The leaves that tend to fade or fall, intimate you to pay a little more attention to your roses and get ready to provide proper treatment to them.
Generally the rose leaves, due to temperature rise, hot air blowing, excessive sun rays, lack of watering or inadequate water sprinkling or even mishandling, fall down the water. They should be immediately taken out or else they may cause damage to the entire bush. Having removed the fallen leaves you need to start your treatment.
Be careful to keep water supply constant as you hold the stems under the water tap or running water from any other source. Use a well sharpened knife or scissor to trim each of the stems nearly two centimeters. Be a little prompter to replace the trimmed stems cut the pot or in the arrangement so that the cutting ends might not dry up. If dried, they will not get as energetic growth as expected.
The newly cut roses should be arranged in a solution that has been prepared by adding fine preservative used for flowers and is often available with the florist. This will definitely give your rose a longer life. Though people always tend to use soft drinks as solution but theses do not give best results and could sustain your rose just for few days. It is recommended to use gloves to protect your hands from thorns. In the process first cut out all obviously dead, diseased or damaged part. Cut it out cleanly at the base. When you have made your cut, look for white inside the stem. If it’s brown, cut further down. Healthy is greenish white not brown. Next, cut out very thin, twiggy growth and remove any stems that cross or rub together. Suckers should be ripped out from their source. Do not cut them, as this will encourage more vigorous growth. As you cut the stems instantly put them in deep and clean container full of lukewarm water in which quality preservative is mixed. Soon after dipping them in, let them cool down for about three hours or so in a place that is dark and cool. Even you can place them inside your home refrigerator. This is because of the fact that rose- freshness depend most o¬n the fall of mercury. The lower is it the better it is for the life of our roses. Hence any place that is not under the direct sun rays, is the best and ideal spot for your roses. A little enclosed site is always recommended to maintain the fresh glare longer. If leaves are not fallen but your roses have bent down their heads then what you need is to soak them deep in the water for an hour or half. They will drink sufficient water which will help them regain their life and grow with full bloom and have sumptuous growth, provided that you do not miss to trim the stems by a sharp shear or knife an inch or so whilst they are under water. Roses that supply you sweet scent and embalming fragrance need so much water all the time that they are nicknamed “thirsty plantsâ€. So, as much water you give them so much more do they ask for as if they send you speechless message “give me water I will give you fragranceâ€. So for all rose-growers and rose-lovers it is a religious duty to see that their home is always full of water with foam material totally flooded.
